When I go to visit Ralph every year in Bentonville, Arkansas, we always do nuthin’. I cain’t tell you how much I look forward to these visits. We lean back in his comfortable, all leather easy chairs, sip on our evening spirits and watch The Weather Channel on his big screen TV over the fireplace. We don’t talk much. Don’t need to. We just comment on the tornado in Oklahoma “Dadgum. I hope them folks is okay.” Or a hurricane in Florida, “Wow. Looks bad.” Or the drought in California, “That’s not good for the farmers. It’s gonna mean more fires.” Then, we turn to shows like American Pickers or Overhaulin’ to see what’s really happenin’ around our great country.
When I’m visiting, I cook for Ralph. He’s a real meat and potatoes guy. Easy to please. Nuthin’ fancy, just plain good food. He does love his sweets, though. I’ve made him fancy desserts before; special pies and special cakes. But, his favorite sweet is my recipe for Rocky-Road Fudge. The great thing is it’s so simple, it’s ridiculous. Effortless, easy, and sweet… just like our friendship.
